Kristi Piehl knows a thing or two about flipping the script and making the best of life’s critical turning points. After a 12 year career, she was unexpectedly laid off from her job as an Emmy-winning television news reporter in 2008.
Unsure of where to go or what was next, she found the courage to embark on an exciting journey as an entrepreneur. In 2010, Kristi founded Media Minefield, a Minnetonka-based agency on a mission to disrupt the PR industry through earned media, social media and crisis communications.
In 2020, she launched a new venture. Flip Your Script is a podcast about life’s critical turning points and how people find the inspiration and motivation to move forward and rewrite their unique stories.
Piehl initially planned on recording at a local studio, but like many of her guests, she had to pivot when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out. She now broadcasts from the spare bedroom in her Medina home.
“I started Flip Your Script to empower others to rewrite their own stories and to find the strength to turn the page. Each week, I highlight a wide range of guests from CEOs to comedians who have positively flipped the script on their own careers and lives,” said Piehl.
The podcast also provides Piehl with the opportunity to uplift other women in her company. From the podcast’s executive producer to the creative director, the Flip Your Script team is made up of other strong females.
Over the last year, Piehl has featured some memorable guests, like Nathan Apodaca who gained international fame on TikTok after a simple video of him longboarding, drinking Ocean Spray and lip-syncing to “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac went viral. Another notable interview was with Madison Hamburg who shared how he flipped his script from film student to HBO director after his acclaimed docuseries “Murder on Middle Beach” was released. She has also helped share the story of how Prince inspired Vanessa Drews to launch her business, Cheesecake Funk, and how Laura Sobiech is keeping the legacy of her son’s life alive through Clouds, which was recently made into a feature length movie on Disney Plus.
Flip Your Script celebrated its one-year anniversary on May 11, 2021, and since its launch, the podcast has had more than 7,700 downloads. Flip Your Script is available for download on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify and Google Podcasts.
