The 17th Annual Freeze Your Buns Run/Walk was hosted by the Hamel Lions on Super Bowl Sunday, February 2, 2020. Runners gathered at the Hamel Community Center for the 9:45 start of the race, followed by a pancake breakfast at the Hamel VFW. On hand to help serve coffee and clear tables at the breakfast were scouts from local Pack 538. This annual event is the highlight of many, raising significant funds for our community.
“As president of the Hamel Lions, I am in awe of the generosity of our community. Seeing so many people come together inspires me. We not only raise a lot of money at this event, we have a lot of fun! Thank you to all the participants for making this event such a success.” – Jim Herkenhoff
In addition to the Freeze Your Buns event, the Hamel Lions host a community Easter egg hunt, a weekly Flea Market in the summer, the Hamel Rodeo and Parade, and Haunted Acres. Funds raised support a number of local non-profits, including Hammer Residences, IOCP, Can Do Canines assistance dogs, and Toys for Tots. The Hamel Lions are also among the most generous providers of college scholarships, distributing over $10,000 annually to local students.
