Greetings! My name is Jodi Gallup and as the Assistant City Administrator for the City of Medina, I’d like to introduce you to my new column, Common Ground. This column will seek to give residents a more personal connection to the City of Medina and the services we provide. I sincerely love this community and how businesses and residents come together to volunteer their time at local events, fundraisers, and even to speak their voices at public meetings for the betterment of our future! I enjoy meeting residents and getting to know your personal stories. Please reach out to me to let us know how we can better serve you or to simply say hello.

One way the Medina community has truly come together over the years is through the planning and organizing of our annual Medina Celebration Day held each September! This event takes extraordinary volunteer hours with a planning committee that consists of dedicated residents, devoted business owners, volunteer firefighters, caring council members, passionate civic organizations, and hardworking city staff from the Public Works and Police Departments.

This year’s Medina Celebration Day will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hamel Legion Park, 3200 Mill Drive, Medina, MN 55340.

All are invited to partake in the celebration! Come to enjoy delicious food from local restaurants, visit with local businesses and receive give-a-ways, shop the farmers market, play bingo, watch search and rescue dog demonstrations, ride the antique fire truck and be amazed during the grand finale fireworks display at 8:00 p.m. Bring your kids or grandkids to get their faces’ painted, jump in the inflatable bounce house, endeavor the climbing wall, decorate pumpkins, get inside city trucks and vehicles, ride the kiddie train, make s’mores, partake in kid games and more.

Because of our great event sponsors, there is no admission cost to come to the celebration and all kids’ activities are free of charge! Plan to bring money to buy food, shop or play bingo.

Volunteers are still needed to help with set-up and to watch over the kids’ activities. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Anne Klaers at 763-473-8854 or email Anne.Klaers@medinamn.gov.
