Winter has ended and the tradition of spring cleaning reminds us to deep clean and purge our homes. It is also an excellent time to give your body a deep cleaning on the inside.

We all tend to be more sedentary and eat more comfort foods during the cold, dark time of the year. Most people put on a few unwanted pounds, you feel sluggish, and the spring wardrobe feels snug around the waist!

Taking a period of time: 3 days, a week, 2 weeks or a month to cleanse and detox, makes it easier to get back to better habits and feel healthier and more vibrant again. It can be as simple as only eating vegetables and fruit for a few days to an in-depth detox program or at the extreme, a water fast.

There are many programs available, you can google or connect with a healthcare professional for advice. When it comes to detox products and programs there are two main kinds. An intestinal detox, which helps to clean out your intestinal tract or a full body detox. This is the most in-depth cleansing you can do and focuses on driving out toxin that have accumulated in your tissues over time and to support the liver (your big detoxification organ) to be able to break down and convert these toxins into a water soluble form, so they can be excreted from the body.

This type of detox typically takes 10 days to a month and should be done under supervision of an experienced healthcare practitioner. It is a commitment, but you complete the month feeling like a new person! Your body and mind feels clear and clean and many physical symptoms often disappear. The bonus is usually also some weight loss and an urge to continue healthier habits. It’s a great way to jumpstart your spring with better health habits!
